Stand up in the place where the dear Lord has put you, and there do your best. God gives us trial tests. He puts life before us as an antagonist face to face. Out of the buffeting of a serious conflict we are expected to grow strong. The tree that grows where tempests toss its boughs and bend its trunk often almost to breaking, is often more firmly rooted than the tree which grows in the sequestered valley where no storm ever brings stress or strain. The same is true of life. The grandest character is grown in hardship. ~anonymous~

"On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'  But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive..."
John 7:37-44

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  Against such there is no law.  And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another."
Galatians 5:22

Lord, help me to walk in your Spirit and deliver me from myself.  Make me a vessel that you can pour your living water through so others may be provoked to love you and seek you more!
Without you, Jesus, I am nothing.

I'd like to share a little bit of my testimony and tell you what God did for me as a little 4th grade girl with pigtails and how it has affected the rest of my life....

When I was in 4th grade my father got a different job and my family moved to a town far away.  The hardest part was that I had to leave all of my friends and go to a different school where I didn't know anyone.  To make it worse, it was at the end of the school year with only 2 weeks left and everyone knew everyone else but me!

After we moved, my then non-Christian mother gave me a youth bible.  One day I picked up the bible and read about the parable of the widow in Luke 18.  It tells of a widow going to the judge of a city with a request that she had.  She kept going and going and asking and asking until finally the judge got tired of her asking and granted her request.  It then says that God will do that for his own people who cry out to Him day and night!!

I was so sad about not having any friends and wondered if I would ever find friends like I had before.  I had noticed one little girl at school, named Julie.  She was so sweet and nice to everyone and secretly I wished she could be my friend.  So one night before going to bed I decided I would do what Luke 18 said to do.  Every night and every morning and any other time I thought about it, I would ask God if Julie could be my best friend.  That summer I discovered that she lived right up the street from me and guess what happened?  Not only did Julie become my best friend in grade school, she was my best friend all through high school and when we both got married, I was her maid-of-honor and she was mine!

You might think that that is just a cute little story about a 4th grade little girl, but it became one of the most important lessons of my adult life!  Later as an adult, when I was faced with the most difficult trials, I remembered what God had done for me, so I would cry out to Him day and night and He always answered my request!  In fact, even as I write this I am thinking about a difficult situation in my life right now and I am reminded again to cry out to Him day and night.

One more really awesome thing.  When I read this passage as an adult and was going through an extremely difficult trial, I discovered a "secret" that I hadn't noticed when I was young.  Here it is....

 "And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"
Luke 18:7,8

I remember seeing the word "speedily" and thinking that God didn't have to put that word in there, so He must have meant it!  I am here to tell you that He does mean it!  The biggest trial of my life was really short compared to others that had gone through the same thing because I not only cried out to the Lord constantly, but I kept reminding Him that He said He would do it speedily.  He is just looking for people with FAITH!  We need to take Him at His word and BELIEVE Him!  How "speedily" He will grant your request, only He knows, but I know He will because He said He will....and He ALWAYS does what He says!

"...in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:6

HOT, "CROOKED" ROADS AND STRAIGHT PATHS

I'd like to share how God made my path straight a couple days ago.  I was driving down the freeway with my 15 year old son at 3 in the afternoon, and we had a window of time because we were going to a banquet later that evening.  All of a sudden, we heard a strange noise that got so loud that it sounded like a jet was landing on the freeway!  Then, our car started shaking and my son said, "Mom, it's the tire!"  Immediately I pulled off the freeway just as the rim hit the pavement.  The tire had literally "shredded" off the rim!

Many thoughts went through my mind, of course, but the first one was the fact that we didn't have a cell phone with us (to the glory of God as you will see).  So we turned the emergency flashers on and got out and I waved at oncoming traffic with one hand while making a phone gesture with the other.  Car after car passed and it looked like noone was going to stop, so we decided to walk to the nearest gas station and call my husband.  Just as we started walking, a car that was coming from the other direction honked and pulled over.  A sweet, smiling older man got out and, handed me his cell phone and said, "Do you need to make a call?"  I was so relieved!!

So I called my husband, who was at home in a meeting, and told him what had happened.  He said, "I have no idea what to do at this moment since I don't have a car and we don't have AAA anymore."  About that time, the man with the phone said that he could take us anywhere we needed to go!  My husband said to ask him if he could bring us home and he said he'd be happy to.

Instantly, I remembered that my son and his friend were working somewhere about 30 minutes away and I felt an immediate urgency to call him.  I asked the man if I could call my son first.  When my son answered, I said, "Hi, this is mom."  He said, "What are you doing standing on the side of the freeway?"  I was stunned, to say the least, and responded with "How did you know?"  He said, "Because I just drove past you!"  I couldn't believe it!  Within seconds my son and his friend had pulled up and were changing the tire!

The timing was so perfect and I was completely amazed at how God had so quickly responded to our crisis.  All I could do was thank Him over and over again.  I also thanked the man (who, incidently, had some "angelic" qualities about him) and blessed him for helping us!

Later that evening as I pondered what had happened and was sharing it with my daughter, she said, "Mom, God was making your path straight!"   I was so blessed by that and happy that God is faithful to do what he says.  For a pregnant woman to find herself stranded on the freeway on a hot day?  Crooked path made straight, indeed....thank you, Jesus!

"My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

I am short on words today, so I decided to post Jesus' words instead...

Jesus said,
"I am the vine, you are the branches.
He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit;
for without me YOU CAN DO NOTHING.
If anyone does not abide in Me,
he is cast out as a branch and is withered;
and they gather them and
throw them into the fire,
and they are burned.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire,
and it shall be done for you.
By this My Father is glorified,
  that you bear much fruit;
SO YOU WILL BE MY DISCIPLES.
As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you;
abide in My love.
If you keep My commandments,
you will abide in My love,
just as I have kept My Father's commandments
and abide in His love.
These things I have spoken to you, that My joy
may remain in you, and that
your joy may be full.
This is My commandment,
that YOU LOVE ONE ANOTHER
as I HAVE LOVED YOU.
[How did He love us?]...
Greater love has no one than this,
than to LAY DOWN ONE'S LIFE
FOR HIS FRIENDS."

John 15:5-13
